Your donation helps us deliver urgent humanitarian aid in Mexico
The COVID-19 pandemic is compounding an existing humanitarian crisis in Mexico and along the border with the United States.
Every year, an estimated 500,000 people flee from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Facing extortion, forced gang recruitment, and homicide rates that rival those in war zones, many have no choice but to flee their homes.
Those who do flee—including an increasing number of women, children, and families—encounter more violence along dangerous migration routes through Mexico.
Your online donation to Doctors Without Borders is one of the best ways to support our teams as they deliver lifesaving medical and mental health care to these migrants and asylum seekers.
What your donation makes possible
Our teams are on the ground now, opening COVID-19 treatment centers in border cities. Unlike many other charity organizations, Doctors Without Borders focuses specifically on providing free medical and mental health care to those most in need.
We are working in shelters, hostels, hotels, and community kitchens at key locations along the migration routes in Mexico to:
- provide medical and psychological care, including specialized care for victims of sexual violence,
- educate staff and residents on best practices to prevent COVID-19 transmission, and
- install clean water basins and taps, providing cleaning materials, and protective equipment.
From 2015 to late 2019 we provided over 42,000 medical consultations and more than 11,000 mental health consultations to migrants and asylum-seekers in Mexico.
Your donation now will help us continue this lifesaving work.
